About Patti Allen
Patti Allen has a rich and varied background in the healing arts, education and public speaking. Certified as a Rubenfeld Synergist and Reiki Master, Patti runs a successful private practice as a body-centered psychotherapist and healer.
Body-centered psychotherapy is more than just talk! It is a form of therapy that focuses on the body and its relationship to feelings and emotions. The Rubenfeld Synergy Method® (RSM) is the original model for this body-mind integration where body, mind, emotions and spirit are all part of the healing process. Developed by Ilana Rubenfeld over 40 years ago, RSM uses the Gestalt approach of “here and now” awareness, talk, gentle non-invasive touch, movement, visualization and imagination to move clients from “stuck” to a place of choice, healing and personal growth. A session is approximately 45 minutes in length, and is conducted with the client lying (fully clothed) on a massage table. It is not massage, but most people find a deep sense of relaxation of held body tension is experienced. As a Reiki Master and trained energy healer, Patti is able add another dimension of healing to the mix.
Patti also serves on the teaching staff of Seneca College in Toronto in the field of Holistic Health. In addition to teaching Introduction to Holistic Healing and Introduction to Meditation, Patti developed and teaches the only course on dreams offered by a college in the Greater Toronto Area.
Committed to building a dreaming society, Patti is trained and certified as a Dream Teacher in the Robert Moss School of Active Dreaming which has its roots in shamanic dream practices. With a specialty in facilitating dream groups, she presents lectures and workshops on this subject. Patti’s dream groups follow the Ullman-Taylor model where participants, in an environment of safety and trust, share their dreams and imagine what it might mean “if it were my dream.” Any number of approaches to understanding dreams may be used, according to the needs and preference of the dreamers. While some dreamers love to analyze their dreams, others need to feel them, getting in touch with the dream’s essential message through feelings. Sometimes, creative, hands-on fun is the way to understand a dream. The variations are endless, but what never varies is the principle that the dreamer is the only true “expert” who can say what their dreams mean. Patti teaches you how to understand and work with your dreams.
Patti is an active member and former executive member of the International Association of Rubenfeld Synergists, and a member of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, and the International Association of Reiki Professionals. Patti currently serves as chair of the "TLC Divas", a committee of the Spirituelle Divas (TM), where support is provided to members who are facing a terminal diagnosis or long-term illness.
Patti received her Master’s degree in Humanities from York University. Her research focused on dream healing in ancient Greece. Of particular interest to her, was the god of healing, Asklepios. In ancient Greece, people would go to the temple of the god to incubate a dream for healing. In other words, they would sleep on it! Asklepios would come to them in their sleep, in a dream, and they would awaken healed or with a prescription for healing. Worship of this god and these practices for healing lasted for over one thousand years! Patti has gathered and is currently exploring the integration of these ancient principles into the modern lives of today's dreamers.
Patti has appeared as a frequent guest on television and radio where she teaches the public to work with their dreams; most recently, in a 13-week television series called “In Dreams”, on W Network.
