Living light (by choice) is a new experience for many. Remember last fall when I wrote from a waiting room while my snow tires were put on? Well here I am again, waiting for my snow tires to be removed. I seem to write best when I’m trapped with no place to go! At the time of that previous article, a portal was opening- 11/11/11- and now, sadly, I can’t report anything nearly as dramatic. True, we just had the Super Full Moon in Scorpio but that’s not nearly as cool as all those recurring 11′s . The thread that emerges for me, however, is the fact that I’m still in a waiting room!
Cue Dr. Seuss…
Which leads us, my friends, to Dr. Seuss’ story for grown up kids, “Oh The Places You’ll Go” and its Waiting Place. He writes,
“…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.”
Sigh. I’ve been waiting a lot lately and it’s not nearly as Seussical as his Waiting Place. Waiting to know what job offers my husband will get…if any. Waiting to see which he will accept…if any. Which means we wait to see where we will be living because all of this waiting is complicated by the fact that the condo we bought is behind schedule so we’re waiting to hear when we take possession, which in turn, effects all our other waiting…. to see when we will move and who will move us. Waiting to see where we will move in the meantime because we can’t stay where we are, forces us to wait to decide what we take with us and what will go in storage. And all of this impacts my work and my private practice, let alone my peace of mind! Are you dizzy yet?
Naturally, I’ve gone through several stages of decluttering, both physical and emotional, as well as every emotion imaginable but I got to a Place, following the Anxious Place and the Crabby Place called the, “I Won’t Let This Not-Knowing Hold Me Hostage Place.” It’s crazy-making, sure, and times are more uncertain they have ever been in my entire life, absolutely! But “so what?”, I asked myself. Tomorrow I look at another possible temporary home, a condo that is so small that we will be “living light” in a Zen-like, uncluttered way as there is simply no room for clutter. This little downtown space allows us to live month to month and not sign a long-term lease. In the end, I think living light will serve us well. Letting go is the name of the game and I had a Super Full Moon in Scorpio releasing dream to confirm my direction.
I don’t think for a moment that we all have to experience such turmoil in order to live lightly and Spring is the perfect time to clear out all our old, crusty attitudes, physical clutter, stuck emotions and old resentments. Living lightly on Mother Earth is also important and seeing if there are opportunities to recycle and reuse and avoid waste is another form of this path.
In the end, this Waiting Place is the Fertile Void, the psychic state out of which creativity and growth are seeded, grow and finally emerge. I highly recommend it! Sometimes we need to come undone so we can reorganize and come back together in a new way. Now if I could only figure out how to make it as colorful and as lyrical as Dr. Seuss did!
